  • Five Four Eats: Wahoos

    March 7, 2011

Spent the afternoon yesterday with Wing from Wahoos Fish Tacos. Wing is a co-founder of Wahoos, along with his two other brothers. We got to make some tacos, discussed an upcoming collaboration Five Four is doing with Wahoos, and got to hear his story of how he started his restaurant chain of 58 locations now. Everyone’s entrepreneur journey is so different, always enlightening to hear how people start their businesses from a simple idea to reality.

Apart from the taco overload that TemocEmilio and I had from the taste testing, we shot a fun video for our upcoming collaboration happening next month.

On April 1st, we are celebrating our collaboration with Wahoos Fish Tacos. For many of you who have visited a Wahoos, you know that they focus on a healthy lifestyle, where all it’s products are freshly made, low in calories, and overall healthy. We’ve been friends with Wing Lam, who is one of the co-founders of Wahoos for awhile now, and decided to create a special tie-in.

For many of you that may have been to a Wahoos location, the walls, tables, bars, etc. are all adorned with skate/surf/snow stickers, as this is the lifestyle of the brand and its owners. Always following the non-traditional road, we both felt that a contemporary brand can have a great collaboration if done right. And that’s what we did.

One of my passions has always been cuisine, ranging from fine cuisine to fast food, love the concept of creating foods for all price points. I’m a huge fan of tacos, my single favorite dish I can eat every day of my life. In 2010, I set on a personal journey of going on a major diet, I was turning 30, thinking “holy shit, I’m really fat, this is not healthy, and I don’t fit into any of my samples, not a good look.” I set out to lose 54 pounds, no pun intended, but my goal weight, from what I was starting out at was to lose exactly 54 pounds. I ended up losing 57 pounds by the end of it, and 81 pounds down from my all time high in Spring 2008, big boy status.

One of my new found passions is to eat healthy food and adjusting to a new healthy lifestyle, yet eating food that actually tastes good. Don’t get it twisted, I still divulge here & there, but it is rare and usually in moderation. Nothing like a good old Dan Tanas steak to fill the soul.

So Five Four and Wahoos recently teamed up together to create the Five Four Wahoos Stay Skinny tacos, look out for them in April. Meanwhile, here are some behind the scenes of our cooking experience we had with Wing over at one of the Wahoos locations.

    Easy, fresh, healthy, yummy, skinny.

    STAY SKINNY.
